He tweeted, on 31 March 2022, that it doesn’t matter how many degrees you’ve got if you can’t sell anything. You’ve wasted your time.
Ladies and Gentlemen, we played right into his hand.
Law 19, in his book “The 22 Laws of Digital Writing” (co-authored by Dickie Bush), states that if you write for everyone, you write for no one.
As of this writing, there are 90 people who liked this tweet and 22 who commented. He received more engagement on this tweet than any of his other tweets around this time.
He took a stand. He rubbed some people the wrong way. But most responses were supportive.
He told us what he was going to do (Law 19). He did the thing he said he was going to do. And some of us were surprised (myself included) he took this route. Well done my friend.
Stephen King wrote, in his memoir, that once you decide to publish, your membership as part of polite society is over. Being polite does not get attention.
Attention is the currency of the information age.
Information is coming at greater speed and at greater volume. In the midst of this vast sea of information, few things will stand out.
As Cole illustrated, few things get your attention better than a few jabs at certain groups of the population.
