Racking Up Cohort-Based Courses Aren’t Going to Make you More Productive. Taking Action Will.

The next cohort of “Building a Second Brain (BASB)” starts in April. I signed up for emails and am reminded daily about another cohort I’ll miss.

For the uninitiated, BASB is a note-taking and productivity system created by Tiago Forte. He’s been a note-taking and productivity guru for as long as I can remember. The course is beyond my price point. I’ve wanted to take it for over two years and every time I’m ready to commit, the price always drives me away. It’s a flaw I’m working on. I’ve heard nothing but great things from influential people about this cohort-based course.

Are these courses necessary for productivity? Are they as valuable as people say they are? I’m sure there’s a ton of value in this. You get out what you put in as the saying goes.

I started to ask myself: “Am I using this (taking the course) as an excuse to start?”

Am I just creating an obstacle for myself? Do I need this course to be productive? No, I don’t. And you don’t. What you need to do is START.

If you’re resistance is low and you want to take the course by all means, please do. (I’m jealous). It’s an investment in yourself. Just make sure your resistance isn’t high and using this as another excuse not to start taking action on your goals.

I’m grateful for Tiago and the system he’s created. I’m grateful with all the information he’s decided to give away for free. Until I can afford to take his course, I’m afraid the old “trial-and-error” system is going to have to suffice. And you can too. I will support Tiago and all these great content creators in ways that are within my budget (I’ve pre-ordered his book), for now.
