Simplicity. When Life Gets Overwhelming, Strip It Down to Its Bare Essentials.

Life is complicated.

With technology and information coming at us all the time, it’s even more complicated.

This complication is overwhelming and debilitates even the most ambitious among us.

When we let complexity win, our goals suffer. And we must not let them suffer.

Simplify. And then move forward.

Forward movement, no matter how minuscule, is still progress. Let’s make that progress.

The overwhelming tendency of complexity forces us to strip life down to its bare essentials. This only happens when we reflect. Reflecting and thinking about all this complexity helps us realize what is really important.

“What you think is important isn’t.” — Ryan Holiday.

Life’s busy-ness prevents us from zooming out and taking a longer term perspective. But zooming out is essential to our sanity. How things affect us in the short term is vastly different from how it affects us in the longer term.

Unless it’s an absolute emergency, the long term view should influence your thinking more than the short term.

In order to simplify, we must prioritize and realize that some goals will drop.

Ideally, we should figure out what that is beforehand. Not during a crisis.

Simple, but effective. That’s how we should move through life.
